Singe Singe Says: Conference Continues #2

Singe Singe here.
Whew, what  a week in Plattsburgh, NY!
I am proud to report that Kathy Ellen is writing up a storm. I’m so proud of her.
Though I’m also a little bit mad.
We went to the arcade and she only let me play skeeball once.
I love skeeball, a lot.

Hooray! SKEEBALL!

She said I’d better get a job if I want to play more.
So I’m working on that.

OH, WAIT!
I SHOULD GET PAID FOR DOING THIS!

I’ll see what I can do.
Anyway, conference continues!

Singe Singe Says: Conference Continues #1

(Cue trumpet music…)

bum-bum-bum-ba!

Hey, Singe Singe here,
with our first Conference Continues!

The first thing that happens at the conference is pretty fun.
The faculty comes up, introduces themselves, and gives us one word.
Yup, just ONE WORD.

As a sock monkey, my one word would be banana, and it probably wouldn’t be very helpful.
But this faculty, they had some great words!
Here they are, in a fun graphicy thing that I found online while searching for an organic banana subscription service.
(by the way, there isn’t one, if anyone is looking to make the next big internet company….)

WORDS!

ok, now what can you do with these words?
I’m glad you asked, blog reader, because I’ve been thinking a lot about it!

Now, I’m no writer, but I am brilliant, and I came up with a few ideas for ways you can use these words:

Use them for characters:

  • A persistent pet who does everything he can to get out of that pet store
  • A charming mouse that believes he can make friends with a cat.
  • The lead in the school play who actually suffers from stagefright!

Use them for problems:

  • A hard to cover stain on the new dining room table
  • an unexpected visitor while mother is out (wait, that’s the Cat in the Hat!)
  • too many naps!

Combine them for some fun!

  • zippy imagination
  • thunderous moxie
  • ferocious flexibility

And you don’t have to do this with just THESE words!
You can ask people around you for a word or two, collect those, and go to town!
I think I’m going to make Kathy Ellen a wordbag.
When she gets stuck, I’ll just have her pull out some words and play around with them!

Do you have any ideas of how to use these words?
Any good ideas come out of it?
Let me know, ok?
This monkey loves feedback. And comments!

ok, heading off to find partners to finance this banana business idea of mine.
The one, the only,

Ok, it’s been a week since the conference…

Whew.
I know.
And now I’m on a completely different coast.
So, what have I been up to?
Well, right now, I’m going this:

Yup, doing it.

I picked up a lot of cards at the portfolio showcase and thought,
“What would I want someone to do if he or she picked up my card?”
confession: in my head I did not think he or she. I thought they. But he or she is correct, so I’m using it!

I answered my own questions, as writers often do.
So here’s what I’m writing to each artist:

Reader, did you know?

Kathy Ellen is

a child disguised as a grown-up
who writes children's books,
collects flattened pennies,
and is in love with pizza.
She's always making something
and always wearing bright colors
and a smile.
If you see her,
ask for a high five.
She loves them.

You know you want to
